Excerpt:
Julie Laffin and Dolores Wilber's Monument: Bodies on Foreign Soil combined military blankets, images of body parts, and a pair of buckthorn trees (invaders of native Illinois oak forests) in a smart and sad meditation on "invasion and defense: the engine of big history." The names of the Civil War regiments around the ceiling of the Grand Army of the Republic Hall have never felt so immediate.
